Rich Dad, Poor Dad is a book by author Robert T. Kiyosaki that was first published in 1997. It advocates the importance of financial literacy and investing in order to build wealth.
The book goes on to discuss six major lessons:
- Rich people don’t work for money
- Financial literacy is of utmost importance (and not taught in schools)
- Minding your own business (literally)
- How to impact taxes and the value of corporate entities
- Rich people “invent” money
- Working to learn instead of working for money
The book is written as a parable of sorts, with each chapter discussing an important financial concept and its relation to Kiyosaki’s two dads: his biological father (poor dad), who was educated only through the eighth grade, and his friend’s father (rich dad), who was an entrepreneur and investor.
